Debunking a Transfer Myth: There’s No Such Thing as Guaranteed Admission

One common belief about applying to college in general, even outside the transfer process, is that there’s no promise that you can get into your dream school. A great thing about the transfer process through community college and Richard Bland College is that William & Mary offers a guaranteed admission agreement. Through RBC, I was able to reach my dream school thanks to my advisors who helped me along the way!

As much as I love William & Mary now, when I first decided to attend Richard Bland College I didn’t have any idea where I wanted to transfer to after I completed my Associate’s Degree. I had, of course, heard of William an& Mary but never thought I could succeed here – it seemed like such an intimidating place! At Richard Bland College, I had an awesome advisor who walked me step-by-step through the transfer process and the guaranteed admission agreement with me. After doing more research on William & Mary and visiting campus, I knew this was where I wanted to be!

I completed my associate’s degree at Richard Bland in one academic year through high school credits and taking summer courses and was able to quickly attend William & Mary. I would have never known that guaranteed admission was possible if it weren’t for my advisor! I was able to transfer in as an academic junior to William & Mary. Although I was so excited about this when it became possible, my two years have passed in the blink of an eye. Reaching out to your advisors is key, so make sure to make those connections and ask questions! I know it can seem hectic at times communicating between the two schools, but there are many resources available to you as you navigate through this process – all you have to do is ask.

Feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns on the transfer process!
