Senior September in Music
Throughout the new classes, meetings, thesis research, workouts, hangouts, and grad school apps, I’ve found myself relying a lot these past few weeks on music to keep me motivated, reminded of purpose, pumped up, mellowed out, and moving forward.
Here are a few of the tunes that have got me through the past couple of weeks, and a couple of reasons you should check them out:
- Black and Yellow // Wiz Khalifa
Wiz comes back to Southern VA in November and I plan on seeing him in concert with some friends.
- Guns and Horses (Jezebel Remix) // Ellie Goulding
Ellie’s voice is ethereal. Her songs could play on repeat in your headphone as you sit in Swem. The perfect background music.
- Sunlight // Modestep
A bit faster. Perfect to run to in Colonial Williamsburg and get your workout on at the Rec.
- Kid Again // Tayyib Ali
Senior year and “I’m just feelin’ like a kid again”
- Bombing the Starry Eyed // Doug Bogan
A bumped up tempo Ellie Goulding.
- Let it Go // Fortune Family
The title says it all
- I Heart NY (Emil & Friends Remix) // Samuel
Smooth flow on this one.
- Cold War // Janelle Monae
A good pump up song if you’ve been feeling down. This one will put you on your feet.
- Stars (LAZRtag Remix) // The XX
I’m seeing these guys in concert w/ some W&M friends on October 5th at the 9:30 Club in DC. If you’re not familiar with their cool indie feel, be sure to check them out.
- I Walked // Sufjan Stevens
Download everything by Sufjan. His sound is so unique there’s nobody quite like him.
- Alors on Danse // Kanye West & Gilbere Forte feat. Stromae
For when the week’s over and you get some time to relax with friends.
- I Am // Novel
“I’m as, free as a spirit, I’m as fly as a bird, I’m whatever I wanna be as long as I am heard”
- Lights (Messed Remix) // Ellie Goulding
Ellie again. Almost everything by her is on repeat for me right now.
- Summertime Hot // Johnny Bug
A cool end of summer remix to an old favorite.
- Fast Lane // AudioDax
If you haven’t heard of these guys check them out. AudioDax can do no wrong on my iPod.
- Satellite // Bobby Ray
Nice rolling beat.
- By The Way (Enigma Remix) // Red Hot Chili Peppers
An energized new spin on a classic.
From my ears to yours,
Brian
