Williamsburg Weather

The recent cold front that has hit Williamsburg is not exactly normal for this time of year, but it represents the onslaught of winter nonetheless. Though we will undoubtedly experience a few random warm days here and there in the coming weeks, winter in Williamsburg is practically upon us.

As an out-of-state student from Texas, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that winters here are rather mild. Though I would prefer the lowest temperature to never dip under 55 degrees, I will admit the coldest weeks are not that bad. Usually the last few weeks of the first semester and the first few weeks of the spring semester find me wearing my very warm winter coat (bought just for my time here in Williamsburg!) and a scarf, but soon enough the warmer spring weather arrives and the temperate, albeit random, climate returns until the heat of summer sets in.

For those who enjoy the fall of snow, don’t plan on playing in it too much here in Williamsburg. Snow has fallen all three winters I’ve been here in Williamsburg (that includes the few flurries that fell a few days ago), but only once has there been enough to build (small) snowmen. Nonetheless, it’s certainly an exciting time on campus for those who enjoy the falling flurries!

Overall, as a sun-loving out-of-stater, I enjoy the weather here on campus. It’s nice to have all four seasons, and the changing colors of the leaves in the fall are breathtakingly beautiful. Though I admit I would prefer a bit warmer winters, it’s nice to come back to college where I’m not trudging through snow to get to class.
