Decisions, Decisions
Congratulations to the newly admitted transfer students! I remember how incredibly excited I was when I got my admissions decision just a year ago, and I hope you are enjoying that feeling as well. Welcome to the Tribe, and welcome home.
Now that you have a decision to make, what do you do? I know we’re all in the midst of finals, busying ourselves with papers and exam study guides and flashcards upon flashcards. But it’s also an important time to think about your future and think about where you want to be in just a few months from now. I highly recommend, if you can make it here, taking a trip to Williamsburg and seeing W&M one more time before you make your decision. I came down to visit last year, escaping my school in the middle of finals for a weekend in Williamsburg to see what could be. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that feeling of coming to campus again, walking around the Sunken Garden with some of my friends, and feeling something click. I knew I had to come here.
You may not have friends here yet to visit, but there are still things to see and questions to ask. Absolutely get all the information you can and connect with current students (myself included!) about questions you have and any concerns that pop into your mind. There is a “W&M Admitted Transfers” Facebook group where you can get to know other admitted and current transfers! Look into all your resources. Speaking from experience, this was the best decision I ever made. I hope W&M can become your home too!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am trying to squeeze a visit in to help discern. The campus is closed for tours so I will be on my own. Other than the obvious facilities, is there something or someplace that is off the beaten path that you would regard as essential?
Personally, my favorite spot (which is is a little off the beaten path but still very much on campus) is Lake Matoaka. It’s absolutely beautiful and easy to get to…there’s a path behind the Business School, and you can find it on the new maps all around campus. I also just like walking along the Sunken Gardens and checking out some of the academic buildings. Just keep in mind that we’re in finals mode right now, so the academic buildings/Swem (library) will probably be busy. Good luck! Let us know if you have any other questions!
