Engagement Academy

For ten years I have organized an engagement academy for student leaders.  Over the past 10 weeks 23 students have interacted with, learned from and been inspired by some of the most innovative social entrepreneurs and public leaders in the country.   Students listened to a doctor speak about medical journeys across the globe and they learned about the challenges and triumph of starting a global initiative to provide education on the African continent.  The selected group learned of a new form of psychology receiving basic training in human flourishing.

Students were urged to discover their moral compass, to dream big and to embrace their soon to be alma mater with the vigor it deserves.  Those that encouraged, urged, educated, lectured, listened and inspired were all alumni of the College of William and Mary.  They traveled back to their beloved alma mater to share life lessons and in return they left with a reminder of the unique character of William and Mary.  The thunder of the chorus echoed throughout the classroom as students ask thoughtful questions that do not have simple answers.  They left campus filled with pride.  Their alma mater is just as they remembered – if not better.
