Time Flies When You’re Having Fun
Earlier this year I made a promise to myself to be more timely with my posts. I wanted to carve out an hour a week to wipe my fingers across the keyboard of my Dell laptop and hope something fit for public consumption came out. Well, as the title of this post suggests, time sort of flew away from me. And not in that serene way you see during a romcom right before the two leading characters are about to fall in love. No, this flight was more like being strapped to the back of a hummingbird: fast and seemingly never ending.
Make no mistakes…my year was fantastic. Sure, I was taking a butt load of upper level classes, and there were times when I thought my head might explode with all the reading and writing I had to get done (yay humanities double major!), but there’s not a single thing I would change. Before I get into the good stuff, aka my summer study abroad in non other than the beautiful state of Goa, India, let me give you a super quick update.
I am now the proud owner of an entire closet in my sororities’ house filled with binders and chapter history. In November I was slated as Pi Beta Phi’s 2015 Vice President of Fraternity Development. Long title I know, but it’s amazing getting to know more about the history of my chapter and the traditions of Pi Phi. I also served as co-social chair/tour manager for my a cappella group. Organizing 12 girls on a tight schedule? Now that was a challenge if I do say so myself. All things aside, these two roles in the two groups I care very deeply about, happily took up a lot of my free time.
Now enough about me, let’s get to the good stuff. This summer I had the absolutely thrilling opportunity to study abroad in Goa, India. India is divided up like states, just like home sweet America, and Goa is the smallest. It’s also the only state in India that was colonized by Portugal until India swooped in. Going to Goa was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
If you don’t already have a little grudge against me for not posting for an unacceptably long period of time, you’ll really hate me now. I’m going to hold off on the details of the beautiful land of Goa until my next post. But I promise I won’t leave you hanging. I will leave you with a nugget of knowledge I’ve learned from this year. As important as school work is, getting an A, having the world’s most perfect essay…you’re not going to remember the days you stayed in to get that extra hour of studying done. I’m not saying throw your papers in the air like it’s the last day of school on a Disney Channel movie, but I am saying don’t stress so much you lose yourself in your grades. It’s much more fun to lose yourself in experiences.
Until next week!
