You Only Live Once

It’s 9:29 a.m. and I’m running on a Wawa breakfast sandwich and coffee. I got 3 hours of sleep last night, but the great story associated with it makes it ALL worth it. 🙂

At approximately 7:53 a.m. this morning, I rolled into Williamsburg in a car packed with friends. Coming from where? Our spontaneous roadtrip ’08 to the Outer Banks!

In the span of 14 hours, 4 friends and I:

-raced out of work, threw a bathing suit and a toothbrush in a bag, and drove the 2 hours to OBX (I’d never been there before!),

-caught the last few seconds of the sunset over the Sound at Jockey’s Ridge, made 809234732974 attempts at “jumping pictures” on the Sahara-like sand dunes,

-grabbed a seafood dinner at Greg’s chosen spot of Sam & Omie’s,

-headed off to Sam’s house on the canal for night kayaking in waves I’ve only seen in The Perfect Storm and under a sky full of stars,

-took a midnight swim off of Sam’s dock and counted how many times we could tip people off of a kayak,

-contemplated some William & Maryopoly but decided to listen to Greg tell embarrassing stories about himself instead over a feast of lemonade and Cool Ranch Doritos,

-slept for 3 hours,

-left OBX at 5:30 a.m. this morning,

-and drove back to Williamsburg to come straight to the Admission office, showing up right on time for our 8 a.m. workday.

My parents will think I was crazy, and my body will probably crash in a few hours, but it was so so so so worth it: an awesome adventure with great people.

Our motto for the night was “You only live once,” and ain’t that the truth.

This is exactly what college is supposed to look like. 🙂
