The magic of slam poetry…

With all of the activities and programs that I’m involved with on campus, it is difficult to find time to try new things, just on a whim. So if I had the chance to try something that I wouldn’t usually do, I would learn how to write and perform slam poetry. There are usually a couple of spoken word or slam poetry performances a year provided through Alma Mater Productions (AMP), and I am always in attendance. The energy of the performance is always enveloping and I find it somewhat magical to hear someone pour their heart and soul into their writing. I consider myself a fairly good writer, yet I cannot grasp the melodic and rhythmic nature of poetry. For now, I’ll just take my seat in the audience and keep the writing to the pros.
