Another Raised Brick

I.     So…if you go to William and Mary, there is a guarantee that you have already plunged into utter embarrassment by tripping over a raised brick. These raised bricks are infamous on old campus and often catch you at the worst of times (or at the same time everyday for some). For example, I was walking to Blair Hall to talk to my Philosophy of Law professor. I had a presentation earlier that day so I was wearing heels. Let’s just say this: Raised brick + heels= inevitable trip2. So, I continue my journey to my teacher’s office hours with ruined tights, a dirt stain on my skirt and a limp from hitting the ground really….really hard. What do you say at the end of this day, “Just another raised brick…”

II.     One of my friends lives in Monroe Hall and has class on old campus. Every day without fail she trips over a raised brick on the left hand side of Blow Hall. Though she knows exactly where it is and probably could avoid this encounter if her William and Mary classes weren’t so hard, the raised brick is like her rite of passage every morning. Some things never change I guess. And this is a warning to take heed when walking on the left side of Blow Hall, if you don’t, the result won’t be pretty.

III.     The last story involves my roommate’s encounter with a raised brick. On this particular day, her William and Mary swipe card used to access the dorm doors was out of commission and a girl approximately 10 feet ahead of her was swiping into our dorm. Instead of yelling “Can you hold the door, please?”, she begins to run at maximum speed to catch the door before it closes. However, a raised brick interrupted this process and her flip flop caught the edge of the brick causing her to slide up the path as the door shut. I can predict that this was probably not an opportune moment and I’m sure the people who saw the show from afar were laughing hysterically in their brains (because I know I would have been). And if you were wondering, she did survive the crash. And what did she say after the end of this day, “Just another raised brick…”
