Time Out for Transfers — What Happens Next
I Admit It! It’s been a while between “Time Out for Transfers” dances. My sincerest apologies. But that blog series is back – like Backstreet was back in the late ‘90s for those of you who get that reference. This one will be short and sweet but with the spring transfer deadline being TODAY, here’s what you need to know moving forward.
Application Deadline: Today, Monday, November 5. By 11:59pm, your application documents should either be submitted electronically or postmarked.
Be on the lookout for: Emails letting you know where your application is in the process. You’ll get one email when we download your application and Supplement from Common App (that email usually comes just a few business days after you click submit). You’ll get a second email within two to three weeks letting you know that either we’ve completed your application file (meaning we’ve matched your Common App and W&M Supplement with the other required materials – high school transcript, college transcript(s), application fee) or that we’re missing a required component. If you are alerted that something is missing, DO NOT PANIC. We will let you know what’s missing and how to submit it; no harm, no foul. Moral of the story: check your email.
November 22: mid-semester grades due. The best way to submit these is to download the Common Application’s mid-term report (pdf), have each professor fill it out, then fax it to 757-221-4223.
Sit back and relax: it’s in our hands now. We will be reviewing spring transfer applications over the course of the next month.
December 5 (give or take given the application deadline was pushed back a few days): we will email decisions so check your email. Once a more precise date is known we will let everyone know.
Good luck to all of you applying for spring transfer admission. You submit the application and we’ll take it from there.

Is dec 5 the same date of notification for early decision incoming freshmen? Thanks!
@Steele, generally freshmen decisions go out prior to spring transfer decisions but given that we extended the ED deadline this year, we’re not quite sure if that will impact the timing of decision notification. Once we know when decisions will be released we’ll be sure to post that information.
Hello!May I ask where can I check my application material status for freshmen admission? I was a little bit anxious because I was applying for the Early Decision, but I was told that my SAT and TOEFL scores were not recieved by Admission Office(though I sent them about 2 weeks ago). Should I resend the scores or just wait for the sending result? Thank you!!
@Tianlin, how were you told we didn’t receive your scores and when? Did you read our recent post about how we communicate with you about your application status (http://blogs.wm.edu/2012/10/16/how-it-works/)?
Hi, I had had a question about Midterm grades…I’m taking two classes online, from a community college up in Northern Virginia. How would I go about getting their signatures/grades? Thanks for the help!
The best thing to do might be to email the professor and ask him/her to email you or our office your estimated mid-term grade. Their email signature would count.
Wow that’s even easier than I could’ve hoped! Thank you!
