One Giant Leap for Admission Kind
We Admit It! We think maybe we can make out a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. And that’s because we have successfully downloaded every freshman Common Application into our system. That means that every student who has applied for freshman admission (and their parents) should have received an initial email from us stating that we have received your application. If you applied to W&M and have not received such an email:
- First: check your spam/junk folders to see if the email landed there
- Second: check with your parents to see if they received an email (assuming you included their email address in your Common App)
- Third: DON’T PANIC. If you have not received such an email, contact us as soon as possible so we can investigate what happened and work with you towards a resolution
It’s important to note this DOES NOT mean all applications are complete. We are still working to match over 1500 applications with their transcripts, test scores and application fees. Remember, you and your parents will receive a second email when we’ve completed your file. Or, if we are unable to complete your file, we will email you (the student only) to alert you to what’s missing and how to submit it.
So we still have A LOT of work ahead of us (not only processing applications but of course reading them) but this is a major hurdle cleared. And hopefully it feels good to you to know that all the cyber magic worked and your application landed just where it was supposed to. And we promise, it’s in good hands.

Hi I’m an ED accepted student and I have a quick question and wasn’t sure where else to ask it. On my common application I put that this spring I will be playing a varsity sport for my 4th year but it looks like that might not be happening as I planned on. I know that sports and commitment to them can be a strong spot on an application and I was wondering if I should be concerned about not playing this spring.
@Emily, just feel free to update us and let us know why you won’t be playing as planned. We wouldn’t be too concerned about it. Remember, no one thing on its own can make or break an application.
Hello. I just received my transcript and requested one so I can send it in to W&M. I’m hoping to be able to get it sent off this week. I also just took the ACT for the last time and requested my scores to be sent to W&M. I know they may not arrive in time to be considered, but I decided to take the chance. Just wanted to check in and make sure this would be okay as a deferred applicant.
@MPS, yes, that’s fine. It’s possible the ACT results will not arrive in time but we will review all we can.
Just curious, how many applications were submitted this year? Is this another record year? Good luck to all the applicants!
@Dianne, yes, our application numbers grew this year. We received a few hundred more applications than we did last year so it is another record year (which we are humbled by) but the change in application numbers is not drastically different from last year.
Thank you!
Is there a cutoff date for ED applicants to send in updated information to add to their file?
@L, there’s no official cutoff date but we’d encourage applicants to get any updated information in ASAP as we will soon enter the committee stage.
Is there any form of communication that confirms when the office has received our additional mail?
@L, generally not. We just receive so many. But our process is very thorough so you can feel confident that if something arrived at our office it will make its way to your file.
Thank you so much!
Have all 1693 Scholars semifinalists been selected and notified?
Found my answer in one of your replies to a comment on another blog post!
Anyway, thank you so much for replying as promptly and clearly as you do to all of these questions!
Hello,
We received the first email in early December but have not received a second email to say the application was complete. Should we check in or is that not unusual? Thank you!
@H, we are still working to complete about 1000 applications so it’s not unusual for your application to be incomplete. However, you are welcome to follow up to see what’s missing and how to get it to us.
Thanks for your speedy response!
