Decisions, Decisions: Transfer Edition

Admit It! The beginning of this blog is sounds very familiar.  Those of you who applied for spring transfer admission are likely on the edge of your seats waiting for decisions to be released.  Well, the wait is almost over.  Decisions will be available via email on the morning of December 8.  Emails will be sent to the email address supplied in the Common Application.  Please check all spam, junk, and forwarded folders.  The email notification will come from an @targetx.com domain and the sender will be “on behalf of the College of William & Mary”.  There are two possible decisions: accept and deny.  Regardless of decision, you will receive your decision via email.  Those admitted will also receive additional information in the mail.  We do not waitlist those who applied for spring transfer admission because there is not enough time to admit additional students after we hear from those who have been admitted due to winter break and the impending start of the spring semester.

To the newest members of William & Mary’s classes of 2012, 2013, and 2014: Congratulations and welcome to the Tribe.  We hope you decide to transfer to W&M and become a part of this diverse, intellectual and enthusiastic community.  We are excited to have you join our classrooms, clubs and organizations, athletic teams and campus this spring.  Please follow the instructions provided in your email, ensuing mailed information and Tribe Guide closely in order to make your transitions as smooth as possible.  These documents will help you make your enrollment deposit, apply for housing if applicable (those admitted as second-semester transfer freshman will automatically be placed in a freshman residence hall; upperclassmen are not guaranteed on-campus housing but we have plenty of spaces for incoming transfer students — you just need to complete an application to be considered), submit transcripts and course descriptions for credit evaluation, and navigate the Orientation process.

*Note: your offer of admission is contingent upon continuing to meet high standards of academic performance, personal conduct and completion of all work in progress.

To those applicants who were denied: we are sorry the decision could not be more positive.  Our transfer admission process is a selective one in which only 45% of those who apply are admitted.  Rest assured that your application was reviewed in full, twice by two different members of the admission committee.  We considered all of the information you provided including, but not limited to your academic record in both college and high school, your extracurricular and/or employment experiences, your recommendations, mid-semester grades, and essay.   If you applied as a second-semester transfer freshman, understand that we had very few spaces to make available to you.  Because all freshman must live on campus, and because we have very few beds available in our freshman residence halls, we are oftentimes compelled to deny students who are competitive for admission.  We encourage you to apply again for the fall semester.

We know that all of you will have many wonderful options available for the duration of your college tenure and we wish you all the best.
