Bleeding Green and Gold

Walking through campus one can’t help but notice a certain difference in the air. It could be the flood of beautiful weather we’ve been having in contrast with the past weeks rain storms or it could be the eery quiet before the hectic rush of finals. But it doesn’t take a person long to realize the increase in tribe pride around campus. The excitement of the Tribe football team’s 9-1 record is contagious. On the Monday following our win against New Hampshire the smell of hotdogs and victory lingered in the air. Green and gold t-shirts have become ubiquitous around campus. Painting one’s face or body green and gold have become the norm. It’s not to say that our tribe pride cannot be seen when our school is not enjoying  such an outstanding winning record. But students and alumni alike are coming out in full force. An energy is pumping through the veins of the William and Mary campus. Sitting in the Daily Grind enjoying a coffee, or catching up with friend at the Sadler Center, the excitement of the Tribe is the talk of the school.

As Thanksgiving break draws nearer people will be returning to their homes to celebrate with turkey and stuffing. And I can say without hesitation that each student will be bringing the news of the Tribe to their dinner tables to share with the whole family. I’ll sit in New York with a drum stick in one hand while eyeing the yams and explain to my little cousin how the Tribe football team has the heart of a champion. Thanksgivings around the country will be infused with tribe pride, just as they should be.

Happy Thanksgiving and Go Tribe!
