The “Campus Look”

I was sitting in class today staring at this dude with a black leather jacket and greased up hair, when it occurred to me that this school is a blend of mainstream and well, weird. One of the things I love about William and Mary is that there is no one type of person who goes here. I know everyone says that, but it’s true. For example, last night I was having dinner in the Sadler Center dining commons and looked to my left. There was a group of about ten students, two of which sported extremely frizzy hair (red and out of control, and blonde but never been brushed.) A few of them wore World of Warcraft/ Dungeons and Dragons (I can’t really tell the difference) gear and the girl next to them had short hair and those little cat ear headbands that, to the detriment of America, came into existence about five years ago.

Then I looked across the room and saw the most beautiful group of sorority chicks. Some wore heels (to the dining commons! Impressive I know!), other had that long flowing semi wavy hair that guys try to run their hands through until they realize that the hairspray merely creates the illusion of smooth and chic locks. How they manage to maneuver themselves around the College’s slippery uneven bricks I do not know, but admire nevertheless.

I know we sort of have a reputation for having a, well, less than gorgeous student population, but really, how does that hurt anyone? If you believe the stigma which you really shouldn’t, all that means is that you’re going to look comparatively better to everyone else, obviously. So, roll out of bed in your ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ pj’s, throw on that black North Face jacket, brush your teeth and you’re good to go. And men, remember: women like Old Spice. Wear it. Own it. Live it.
