It has begun!

Hi, y’all!  My name is Kiara Earle and I am a senior at William & Mary majoring in Government with an East Asian Studies minor.  Today was the first day of the 2016 DC Winter Urban Education Seminar!  It may be a long title, but it is a short time where we fit a full semester of class and coursework into a mere 10 days.  What really sets this seminar apart from other William & Mary classes, and gives it that DC charm, are the site visits where we engage with school officials and policy makers in order to gain a fuller understanding of education in the United States.

Balloon stacking and bonding! Roxanne puts our skills to the test in this fun ice breaker!

As it was our first day, it was a time for us to get an introduction to the course and each other.  Before diving into our afternoon class, all of the students got a chance to mix and mingle with those from different seminars.  There was great food, great people, and plenty of balloons!  DC seminars are great opportunities to bridge the gap between what we study in the classroom and what we see in the real world.  Just as importantly, it is a time to explore the magnificent DC area.

Some of Urban Education goes for a little post-class sightseeing!

There is much to look forward to in the during our stay, and I look forward to sharing it all with you.  Make sure you keep your eyes open for updates on our blog.  We wish you love, peace and soul!
