The Waiting Period: How to Deal

The waiting period of a transfer student is a whole different monster than the waiting period of a high school senior. You have to continue your classwork while walking around wondering if you’ll be looking at these same gray stones next year. Should you be strengthening your ties to your current school or dreaming of what’s to come?

When I decided to transfer, I only applied to William & Mary. In my mind it was the only school worth risking the routine I already had at my previous one. I sent my application in before the March deadline and waited anxiously for May to roll around. In the meantime, I focused on making the most of my semester, whether or not it would be my last. I spent time with my friends, explored the town, and looked for different events on campus. Just because you’re thinking of leaving doesn’t mean you need to drop everything you’re involved in! I toughed it out, kept checking the admissions blog, and eventually I got the best email I have ever received.

The waiting period is tough, but hang in there! In the meantime, take a break and relax. Feel free to contact me with any questions about my transfer process. And if you’re not in the middle of midterms like I am right now, take some time and watch the newest season of House of Cards. No matter how stressed you are about your admissions decision, Frank Underwood has it much, much worse.
