Mother Earth

According to scientists the Earth is 4.55 billion years old, give or take a few hundred thousand years.   If we compacted the age of the Earth into one calendar year humans would occupy about 15 minutes of that calendar year.  In other words the Earth has been around for a whole lot more time than humans.  For the past 235 years we have been a part of this United States of America experiment.  So that’s about 5 seconds of the calendar year.  The earth must laugh at how great we think we are!

Anyway, here is my point:  we worry a lot about legacies, about contribution, and about the impact we might have.  For the most part that is really great stuff, as long as we keep it in perspective.  We are here for such a brief time and there certainly is much to accomplish.  Part of the beauty of this time here is to recognize how relatively short our stay is.  None of us will destroy this majestic Earth.  It has weathered so many greater storms.

Plant earth is here for us to enjoy.  We are so very fortunate that we get to seek, to wonder, to explore, to watch and to express love.  As guests on this planet we are so very lucky.

There is nothing perfect about any of us.  What might be closest to this concept of perfect is actually Mother Earth.  She is beautiful and if with age comes wisdom she is wise beyond her years.  Let her teach by listening to her wisdom.
