What’s New in the Peer Advising World?
While classes are starting to wind down with just over a month left of school for the spring 2016 semester, the campus is starting to amp up its preparation for the incoming class of 2020. Admission decisions have been sent, tour groups can be found all over campus, volunteers are eagerly preparing for Day For Admitted Students, the Office of First Year Experience is hard at work, and the Peer Advisors (PAs) have been selected and are enthusiastically awaiting their training and summer assignments!
The 2016 Peer Advisors, both new and returning, are amazing, talented, smart, and compassionate members of the Tribe. The Office of Academic Advising is so grateful to them for the time they have already spent applying and interviewing and the time they will spend working with all the new students in the months to come. A huge thank you from the OAA and the Exec Board to all our PAs for your dedication, commitment and continuous support.
What’s new in the Peer Advising world?! Firstly, PAs will be meeting in April to begin training for their role this summer and during orientation. The Exec Board has been hard at work preparing materials to ensure the PAs have all the information they need.
Secondly, the Peer Advising Program has started a new program this semester called Peer Advising Direct Meetings. This allows current underclassmen and transfer students to request a one-on-one meeting with a Peer Advisor to talk about a variety of academic topics from registration assistance to campus resources. We will be looking for Peer Advisors to sign up soon to participate in the program for the fall 2016 semester. If you want, make an appointment to speak with one of our PAs.
Finally, for all of you still debating whether William & Mary is the school for you, our blog will feature a few posts over the course of April on “Why William & Mary.” We’ll tell you why we chose W&M, why our academics are top notch and why our students are some of the most amazing people you could ever meet.
Keep checking back as we start up our blogging again for the 2016 year! If you have any questions check out the website, our Facebook Page, or email us at oaapeeradvising@wm.edu.
