Spring Time, Tours
Spring is my favorite season at the College (though I saw a few snowflakes earlier today, so I’m not too sure if the College is in the full swing of spring just yet). The Sunken Garden is open for naps, studying, and games of Frisbee, or chase; the weather is crisp and everyone breaks out their shorts and sunglasses; the entirety of the College is more than picturesque, and everyone’s attitude is great. The most curious factor of the College during spring are the tours, however.
The College almost becomes the hottest attraction for prospective students. Tours crowd the campus and I feel like I’m on display at some sort of dystopian, live-action museum. I felt really uncomfortable unhinging my CSU while the tour guide walked backwards past the post office and said, “This is where our mail is, and it’s really neat because you keep the same CSU box for your entire stay at the College, which is…” I was caught off guard. And while the observing tourists trotted past me, taking in every inch of the scene with their enthusiastic eyes, I was confused as to whether I should continue to go on with my business, or mechanically smile and wave.
What’s even more peculiar is when the tours walk through the Sadler Center while I’m at the salad bar or chowing down. It’s as if those kids have never seen a piece of food in their lives. And I say we should dress the tour guide in a safari uniform when crossing into the dining halls because it can get really dangerous come lunchtime.
In all seriousness, if you are reading this and considering W&M as your alma mater then I highly suggest engaging in a campus tour. Our tour guides are some of the most enthusiastic lights on our campus, and now is the time to see our campus. Because, yano, it’s ‘spring’ and all.
More to come soon!
