Blogging from Austin: Day 2
(Austin Convention Center-Austin, Texas)
The second day of the conference started off with a sort of a nudge as, getting no sleep the night before, I accidentally overslept and missed the non-existent wake-up call. But it was okay because I still managed to get to the Hilton nice and early to make it to one of the more earlier sessions on how to produce stories on a small budget.
I think today, it really made me wonder what it means to have a newspaper on campus. What do we do? Why do we exist? I think that some of my friends that are active in the campus would say that the newspaper brings them information, others would say that the newspaper brings them entertainment when they’re bored, still others would probably respond that the newspaper is what keeps them dry during random bouts of Williamsburg rain. (Though I sincerely hope the latter is not that popular…)
But the more and more I thought about it, the more and more I realized that the paper ultimately comes back to you guys. Well, you guys being students on campus. And it made me wanna know. What is it you guys look for in a paper? Do you guys think there are any ways that we can improve? What sort of news do you guys want to learn about? I always want to hear about these things from people, especially you guys as students at the College.
So I’m gonna open it up, right here and right now. If you’ve got anything you want to critique about the newspaper, especially design or content-wise, let us know! I’m always open for suggestions and comments. Don’t be afraid to let me know and shoot me an email at [[iteshima]]. Show me how the newspaper can cater to you, because, after all, you are our readers, and you are who we are ultimately writing for.
