A new year, a new language

I have been cursed with an endless desire to try new things. Having said this you can imagine how anxiously I awaited the 2009 activities fair. Though intended to promote freshmen to become involved in a few of the hundreds of clubs and activities we have on campus, I embrace this as an opportunity to try something totally out of my comfort zone. Without any regard to the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day I eagerly signed my name on numerous interest lists. Now I just sit awaiting the welcome emails that will soon flood my inbox.

In the spirit of trying new things, I also registered for Hispanic Studies 101.  Having done service work in Nicaragua I have always had an interest in learning Spanish. When I saw a spot open I knew it was now or never. With little to show from my six years of french in high school, I was determined to start with an open mind to foreign languages. I hope one day to travel and I know that having a second language, especially one as ubiquitous as Spanish, can only help. With only a few classes under my belt I will say, “Adios!”
