UVA for a Day – Go TRIBE!

Yesterday was a day to remember.

I got up and after giving a campus tour got in the car with three friends and drove up to Charlottesville to watch W&M open up the football season against some of our top academic rivals – the University of Virginia. We got to Charlottesville in the afternoon and, in full tribe pride, put on our W&M ties, hats, and beads and struck out into the sea of cavalier Orange and Blue, clad in Tribe Green and Gold. We made our way down through the streets, incurring looks from Cavs young and old, to the Mellow Mushroom, one of my favorite eateries on ‘The Corner.” Following the game we made our way up through the tailgates surrounding the stadium to the game.

Kickoff was at 6 and I sat in the “Tribal Fever” section of the audience right up against the UVA endzone next to the field. William and Mary had such an incredible showing – of both current students and alumni – that the energy was palpable. With the Pep Band in it’s full splendor and all of us glad in Green and Gold we made enough noise to make the Cavs think twice about whether or not this game would be a walk in the park.

With an incredible defense game we managed to secure turnovers and interceptions that led to an eventual victory. As the fourth quarter began all of the UVA students just began pouring out of the stadium and our noise gradually increased – in full cheer the hundreds of loyal W&M fans ushered the team on to victory.

Making our way from the stadium the Cavalier campus was alight with the W&M Alma Mater and varying renditions of “Go Tribe” being shouted across the lawn.

The victory of 26-14 was historic and the energy, enthusiasm, and size of our showing to support the Tribe is something I won’t soon forget.

Hark the students voices swelling,

Strong and true and clear,

Alma mater’s love they’re telling,

Ringing far and near,

William and Mary, Loved of Old,

Brian
