Home sweet home

One important factor that influenced my decision to come to William & Mary was how close I am with my family. I have one younger sister, two wonderful parents and a best friend that lived next door so I assumed that I would be traveling home often and I wanted a school that was relatively close to northern Virginia. Because there is so much to do on campus during the weekends – everything from comedians, movie screenings, dance-a-thons, 90s tv show marathons, dancing lessons, concerts – I never go home anymore! (Although I still call my dad almost every day).

My fear of flying has kept me firmly on the ground during my spring breaks so I didn’t travel anywhere I can brag about, unless West Virginia counts? My spring break was spent bonding with my parents, driving all over northern Virginia to attend shows of local bands and hanging out with my friends from William & Mary who lived around me (how sad is it that I couldn’t go more than a week from seeing my best friends!)  Although William & Mary has unquestionably become my home away from home, it was great to see my family and friends.

My friends, however, went everywhere from West Virginia on one of our domestic service trips to Honduras volunteering through one of our international service trips. They came back full of touching stories of who they helped and what they learned. If you want to go on one of these service trips, you can definitely make it happen and I would highly recommend it!
