Gold is Taking a Break Today

After spending a week on spring break, coming back to school is rough, but coming back to William and Mary is always a relief. I spent some time at another college in the Northeast, and at one point in time, I suddenly began to miss the comfort and community back here in Williamsburg. In addition to the amazing spring weather this week, culminating at a whopping 86 degrees today (!!!), it was also the week of St. Patrick’s Day.

So what makes St. Patrick’s such a great occasion for me here at William and Mary? Well, I am neither Catholic nor Irish, but this is the day I get to wear green – the day every student here should be able to wear green. As a member of the Tribe, there should be no reason anyone on this campus doesn’t own anything that would prevent them from getting pinched.

Some examples I saw:

Any official William and Mary apparel

Kappa Delta Campus Golf t-shirt from 2009

Green beads often worn by fans at Tribe athletic games

Green W&M Jansport backpacks

…the list goes on

St. Patrick’s is a day of celebration, for shamrocks and corned beef and lucky charms. And, did we celebrate. The campus was a sea of green. But of course, that isn’t an unusual sight for us here at William and Mary.
