Study Abroad Application?

2010-02-24

After you have chosen your program, its time for the application. I know it sounds scary but William and Mary makes it simple. You can do it online and it provides a checklist as you turn separate items into the Reves Center. You have to fill out financial aid forms and prove you have sent off for your passport application. If you have a passport that will not expire by the time you study abroad, then you can send a copy of it and you are set.  However, I wasn’t that lucky. The passport application can be turned in at the post office closest to William and Mary on North Boundary Street. It is walking distance for those without a car and the interview is very short if you have all the application requirements.

Along with these, you will need to get extra passport photos to give directly to the Reves Center. You will also have to write a personal statement or two. Usually there is an essay for William and Mary about why you want to go abroad and then another is for the host university.  You have to receive at least two letters of recommendations and it may depend on your program so have recommendation writers in mind. We had to do a college application so we know the deal with recommendations. There is a fee to apply for study abroad. You must pay at the Bursar’s office and take the receipt to Reves Center.   There is an application deadline so make sure you keep abreast of time.  If you don’t get anything from this blog please MAKE COPIES OF ALL THE FORMS TURN INTO REVES CENTER! The Reves Center has a reputation of losing pieces of applications (I was a victim and it was quite stressful because of course I did not make copies). If it is saved as a Microsoft Word, put it on your flash drive because computer hard drives fry at the worst times.  As you are completing and turning in forms for the application and you notice Reves has not checked off the items, send them an email because they respond quickly .

It is now application time, so What are you waiting for?

Sincerely,

Aspiring London Pioneer
