Is it Summertime or the Middle of October?
So… the summer at W&M is a lot like the school year surprisingly. Students still stay up late nights doing homework in between lengthy discussions about their love lives; they still put in a great amount of work for their classes (probably more than the school year since summer classes are held four times out of the week); late night runs to Wawa are still very common (I mean we gotta eat). The same raised bricks remain on campus so people are still tripping over those (including the conference people so it’s quite hilarious to see adults trip over the bricks).
I didn’t think you could have more squirrels on W&M’s campus but you can and I believe I’ve seen a million squirrels simultaneously while here during the summer. The deer are very friendly during this time since there are less people. They stand at the parking meters like there are cars and get mad at you when you try to park in their spot. It is super hot so walking to the Sadler Center is more of a chore than a joyful stroll to get some food (especially when you live in DuPont!) The cafeteria is still packed with all the camp kids, football players, and summer school students.
However, one of the setbacks of the summer at W&M is that Swem library’s first floor does not turn into the hang out spot since it closes at 6 p.m. rather than 2 am. Another setback is the lack of dance parties forcing people to go outside of Williamsburg to shake their buns. But, overall summer at W&M is the exact same as full swing of the fall and spring semester here. So if all else fails and summer at home is boring, take summer classes! 🙂
