Transfer Waitlist Update
We Admit It! Transfers, we can finally give you an update on the waitlist now that the May 15 deposit deadline has come and gone. The good news is that we are able to admit students from the waitlist. But, it’s important to keep in mind that just as with the freshman waitlist, this process takes time. There are very few hard and firm answers at this point. So below is what we do know and what we can share with those of you on the transfer waitlist.
- We have activated the transfer waitlist to admit a select group of additional students to begin in the fall
- Students selected by the Committee for admission will be contacted directly by phone (and by email if we cannot reach you by phone)
- Students who are admitted from the waitlist will be quickly brought into the fold with other enrolling transfers. They will still be able to attend our Transfer Welcome Day in June, they will be able to apply for on-campus housing and they have equal access to Orientation in August and to registering for courses (which occurs during Orientation in August)
- Students who continue to have updates to their applications (namely final transcripts and/or a continued statement of interest) can still send that information to our Director of Transfer Admission, Senior Assistant Dean Whitney Link
- This process will take time and will play out over the course of the next several weeks, and possibly longer. We appreciate everyone’s continued patience.
The big unknown is when all is said and done, exactly how many students we will admit from the transfer waitlist. Just as with our freshman class, the transfer cohort will change from day to day. As those who have already submitted a deposit get off other waitlists or make other plans, how much use we are able to make of the waitlist will change along with it. That’s why this process simply takes time.
As any further updates become available, we will be sure to provide that information on this blog.

I ‘m so excited! Thankyou for thw updates which have kept me sane throughout the process, thankyou for taking the time to review my FOURTH application, and most of all thankyou for seeing my potential. I am so proud to join the Tribe!
I was accepted as a transfer student in April and I submitted my enrollment deposit a few weeks ago, but I am still waiting on a confirmation email so that I am able to activate my W&M email. I called Student Accounts and they informed me that they did in fact receive my deposit. I also contacted Admissions to hear what I need to do, but I have not heard back. Can you help me maybe?
Thanks so much.
Is there any reason I wouldn’t have gotten a receipt of deposit yet? I paid it yesterday after getting my admissions packet, but I haven’t been able to activate my WM email.
@Nick, congrats and your admission. It takes a few business days for us to process your deposit. Once we do you’ll get an email confirmation and that will provide you what you need to activate your W&M email.
About how many waitlisted applicants will be offered admission initially? That is to say, how many slots are available off the bat?
@Sarah, as we said the shape of the incoming transfer cohort really changes daily so we therefore review and make decisions about how to proceed daily. Admission offers will be therefore ongoing as needed.
Hello,
Is there any remaining housing for transfers who have been admitted off the wait-list?
@Nicholas, those admitted from the waitlist are able to apply for on-campus housing. We believe there will be some spaces for those admitted from the waitlist but our Office of Residence Life manages that process and can be of more assistance if needed.
Just got my housing offer! So excited!

@Hannah, congrats, and welcome to the Tribe! We would have sent an automated email to the email address you used in your application to confirm receipt of your enrollment deposit. If you call us at 757-221-4223 (our general office number) or email us at admission@wm.edu we can resend you that email so that you can activate your W&M email which is how our office of First Year Experience will contact you regarding next steps.
