Transfer Waitlist Update
We Admit It! The waitlist is aptly named. Applicants wait, we wait, everyone waits for the class to settle. At this point, we have had a chance to review the incoming transfer cohort and we will be able to admit some students from the transfer waitlist for the fall semester. Exactly how many students remains to be seen, but as of now, we anticipate being able to admit a solid but select number of students. What follows is a rundown of how this process will play out over the coming weeks.
- The Committee will reconvene in the coming days to review those students remaining on the transfer waitlist to determine who among them is the most competitive for admission. PLEASE SEND IN AN UPDATED TRANSCRIPT AS SOON AS IT’S AVAILABLE. These can be very helpful as we make decisions regarding who to admit from the waitlist.
- Once those decisions are made, we will begin to contact those students we wish to admit. Those phone calls likely won’t be made until later this week at the earliest.
- We will attempt to reach students by phone first. We will follow up by email if we do not reach you by phone.
- We will begin by ascertaining if you still remain interested in W&M. Assuming you are, we will move the admission process forward.
- You will have two weeks to accept our offer once admitted although we encourage you to respond ASAP! This of course allows you to move forward with your transition process to W&M should you accept. If you don’t, it allows us to quickly make an offer to another student on the waitlist.
- Please be patient. This process takes time. There’s a lot of back and forth between applicants and our office. Plus our class could change as we receive more enrollment deposits and as students who have already deposited withdraw their applications.
We will repeat this process as needed throughout the coming weeks (or even months) as our incoming transfer cohort continues to take shape. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to bring this year’s transfer application process to a close.

Is there still housing available for transfers on the waitlist?
@waitlisted transfer, at this point it appears that the transfer housing is full so those admitted from the waitlist will need to seek off-campus housing.
Thank you so much for this wonderful blog! This post has renewed my hopes and prayers that my dream my still be within reach. Thank you again.
Is there still a chance waitlisted transfers could get on campus housing.? I thought housing assignments weren’t made until July?
@Optimistically Waitlisted, good luck!
@Waitlist, housing assignments (building, roommate) are made in July. However, the housing application for transfers was made available to those initially admitted earlier this month and we believe the spots allotted to incoming transfers are likely to be filled from that pool. There may still be a slight chance but we believe those spaces have been spoken for.
Has admissions started contacting anyone on the waitlist yet?
@waitlisted, we’re making our way through the process described above. That process will certainly spill into next week.
In the post, you suggested to “SEND IN AN UPDATED TRANSCRIPT AS SOON AS IT’S AVAILABLE”. Should those who are simply *on* the waitlist send in an updated transcript or only those who have been contacted? Is it too late at this point?
@quaestiones, all students on the waitlist should send in a final transcript from the spring semester (those should be available by now) so if you haven’t do so already, please do so ASAP. Seeing final grades can be helpful in determining who gets admitted from the waitlist.
What should I do if my final transcript is not available yet?
@Waitlist, is there a reason your transcript isn’t available? Is your semester over yet?
Thanks for responding so quickly! My semester ended last week but not all my professors have submitted their grades yet.
@waitlist, understood. I’d recommend you email us with the final grades you do have and let us know you’ll send a final transcript as soon as the rest are posted.
Have you started contacting people yet? Just so I don’t start freaking out because I haven’t heard
@Waitlist, we have begun to contact students. The process takes some time however so we continue to reach out to students on an ongoing basis as needed.
Have you contacted everyone in the first wave of acceptances already? If so, has anyone turned it down?
@Hopeful, the waitlist is a constant work in progress. We have begun to contact students and we are eagerly awaiting their responses and will move forward from there. We do believe we’ll be able to make additional offers but how many and when remains to be seen.
any update for the wait list? have you decided who you wanted to accept? That way those of us who won’t be accepted can stop worrying and just move on?
@optimistic tribe, we are continuing to make our way through the transfer waitlist process. It’s one that can take some time. When we do have a definitive update we will be sure to pass it along.
