Time Out for Transfers — Fall Transfer Applicant Status Update

We Admit It! It’s been a bit of time between transfer-related blogs. We apologize. But now that the freshman process is a wrap, our attention turns to fall transfer applicants. Who’s excited?
So a brief update as to where we are in our process.
- Those applicants whose applications are complete and ready for review have received an email to that extent
- Those applicants for whom we are missing something have also been emailed. That email lets you know what we’re missing and how to submit it. Please check your email and submit whatever we’re missing ASAP! There’s no penalty assessed or anything; we just want to be able to complete and review your application.
- If you have not yet submitted your mid-semester grades, please do so now. Simply download the Common Application’s Mid-Term Report, have each of your professors note your current grade and sign the form. Then simply fax the completed form to us at 757-221-1242.
- We are reviewing transfer applications every day. Committee will begin in a few weeks (keep a look out for the return of the “Overheard in Committee” blogs).
- We do not have a release date for decisions yet. Like our freshman process, we will not know that date until it’s upon us. It will be by May 1 at the latest.
We are very much enjoying your stories and we look forward to having those admitted join the classes of 2015 and 2016! And as always, if you have any questions, feel free to post a comment and we’ll get back to you.

Excellent — thank you for the update! A quick question: to what extent are high school grades taken into consideration? For me, it has been many years since high school, and all of my scholastic endeavors since then have been first rate…but my high school output was a blend of As, Bs, and C+s. I shuddered a little bit when I was asked to send in my high school transcript, though I’m guessing it’s just part of standard procedure?
@Shaun, it depends. For students who are freshmen in college for example, the high school record will play a larger role because we have a relatively short college record to evaluate. The farther away you are from high school the less that record comes into play assuming you have several semesters of college course work to show us.
@Admit It!: That’s what I had hoped, and am glad to hear it confirmed. Even though I’m a little older, my heart is as set on W&M as any of the recent freshmen applicants. Thanks for the quick reply!
Is there a way we can check to make sure our mid-semester grades go to you? I received an email stating that you were missing the mid semester grades from my application but that was the day I had faxed it. Any help would be appreciated 🙂
@Laura, we can certainly check for you if you wish to call.
Thanks for the fast reply! Which number should I direct this kind of call to?
To our office’s main line: 757-221-4223.
Is there a different process for your guaranteed transfer applicants or will they be notified at the same time as the other transfer applicants?
@Christian, no there’s no different timing of our process as applications are finalized and reviewed a bit at random so those applying through our articulation agreements hear at the same time.
