Williamsburg Winter Wonderland
To those from the north, this may not seem like much, and to those from the south, hold on to your hats, mittens, and boots (or galoshes, if you will). On Saturday, January 30th The College of William and Mary was struck with a once in a decade experience of RESPECTABLE snow accumulation. Many students, including ourselves, awoke with screams and yelps of excitement and glee as snow descended from the heavens onto our windowsills. The Williamsburg area accumulated 6 inches of snow, the first of this magnitude in over 10 years. Thus, the students took to the streets and the Sunken Gardens to frolic and play the eskimo way.
The students of the College engaged in a number of different snow friendly activities, from snowball fights, sledding, and building snowmen, to romantic snow laden strolls through Colonial Williamsburg. For many students from the likes of Florida, Texas, and Arizona, it was the first time any of them were ever able to enjoy the excitement of a snow covered land. Luckily, campus hotspots such as the Daily Grind and Wawa remained open for business to provide the beleaguered students an escape from the cold, and some delicious winter treats as well. Most may not think of Williamsburg as the ideal winter escape, however for one weekend, it was transformed into exactly that for the 5,800 students at the College.
The moral of this story: when packing for your freshman year at William and Mary, and Mom tells you not to pack the winter boots…. you may want to reconsider.
