Bittersweet Springtime
It’s that time of the year again. Sun is blazing hot, flowers are blooming all over campus, and oh! the pollen is out in full force.
But really, it’s getting oh-so-close to the end of the semester, and while it’s full of excitement and exciting events (Wale and K’naan concert, anyone?!), it’s also that bittersweet time of the year. Seniors – don’t hate me for writing this, but yes, you will be graduating and moving on to bigger things soon. As scary as it is for the seniors that they will be leaving the Colonial Bubble, quite frankly, I’ll be almost as sad as them that they’re leaving.
Being in the junior class, I have had the privilege to get to know so many of our fine senior class, and they have been an influential part of my college experience. As a class, they have certainly inspired the upcoming classes to do great things, too. While I danced the night away at a formal this past weekend and looked around at all the amazing seniors, I realized how hard it is to imagine William and Mary without the class of 2010.
As the seniors began to lament their “lasts” of everything including the last first day of the spring semester, the last college spring break, last spring concert, and even the last 30th day into the spring semester (trust me, I’ve seen ALL the countdowns on Facebook), I’ve come to realize that the time I’ve got between now and graduation is the time I should take to seize the moment and not take my friendships here for granted. While I look forward to spending a few more weeks with my senior friends, talking about this mysterious thing we call “The Future,” I am not looking forward to the day it rolls around the corner.
Regardless, I have every intention of making the rest of this semester the best it can be. Cheers to the Senior Class, and hey! even the pollen is cheering you on as it makes the College sparkle in green and gold!
