Que Sera, Sera
I always loved that phrase, “Whatever will be, will be.”
With the Christmas lenses off, reality hit me today that a week from tomorrow I’ll be moving into my temporary home in Arlington for the W&M Winter Seminar. Yikes. Cue the list making, check list, prioritizing from “absolutely necessary” items to “on-the-off-chance-I-run-into-President-Obama-or-the-CEO-of-my-dream-job” items, and budgeting. Considering the program is only 10 days long, wardrobe shouldn’t be an issue but, like I said in a previous blog, these are the last three credits standing in between me and graduation so it’s kind of a huge deal. I’ve got to network like there’s no tomorrow and that, my friends, takes prep work and research.
The emotions surging through me are a playful combination of “don’t screw this up” and “this is going to be awesome” sprinkled with “I hope I don’t forget something essential (like my ID)”. I’ll admit, it’s pretty exciting to think about spending a week and some change in the heart of America. From the few encounters I’ve had with him, I know Professor Stelljes will make the trip as memorable and enjoyable as academic trips can be. The Urban Education class is filled with a variety of personalities that all reflect the charm of William & Mary so that’s a non-issue. Honestly, I’m probably just over-thinking the entire process like many of the students at W&M do.
Relax. Breathe. And open your mind to aesthetics of the unknown (I tell myself and anyone else who’s a little antsy about next week). Some of the best of times have surfaced from situations of pure uncertainty.
