Prepping for the 2015 Winter Seminar

October 21, 2014

“Not this year, Winter.” I thought to myself as I frantically drove towards the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. Every single year winter manages to sneak up and catch me without any sort of protective clothing, but this year would be different. It had to be. After submitting my online application, contacting previous professors (who may or may not remember me but I loved their classes) for recommendations, and passing the in-person interview (which I was sure I bombed), I had been accepted into the 2015 DC Winter Seminar.

Unlike quaint and Colonial Williamsburg, Washington D.C. is 1) our nation’s capitol, aka a big deal where the chances of running into our president on the sidewalk are greatly multiplied albeit unlikely, 2) a huge networking honeypot if you’re prepared, and 3) the land of real snow. After speaking with some of my peers in the program, I discovered a strong demographic trend of representation from the NoVA (Northern Virginia) territory and essentially no sympathy for my winter troubles. Nevertheless, I stocked up on coats and layers in an effort to prepare myself for the upcoming trip. Amidst the frequent emails from Lauren, our program coordinator, and the intermittent chats with Tess the TA, I slowly began organizing the next few months in preparation for the Seminar.
