The Wait Continues
Applying is a stressful process – getting all your forms together, changing half of them, writing supplements, wording all your extracurricular activities just right—and you have to do all of this on top of your current school work! Just when you think it’s all over, you’re stuck in the waiting period. This time can weigh on you, but it doesn’t have to.
At this point, you’ve done all you can, and the decision is out of your control. However, it’s important to keep in mind that colleges will expect you to keep your grades up. As boring as it may be, studying is a good way to stay occupied during this time and it also gives you a sense of purpose. Besides that, you can distract yourself with a good show (if you haven’t watched 30 Rock, you are doing yourself a disservice) or a good album (I was obsessed with Ripely Pine during this period and can’t listen to it now without thinking about my old dorm room). If you are having trouble with your decision (especially if you’ve applied to multiple schools), it might be helpful to contact on-campus organizations or even visit campus, if possible.
Another great way to pass the time is spring break (if you’re currently on it or haven’t had it yet). W&M provides many options that allow you to travel and volunteer over break. Through Judaic Studies, I had the chance to go to Germany and Switzerland to study Jewry of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period in the Rhineland. This is just one of the many opportunities W&M has to learn around the world.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
