Summer Fun in Our Community

Summer days in Williamsburg stretch out long. The long light, slower pace, and enveloping humidity make summer a unique time to be in Williamsburg, with perhaps extra time to do those things you’d never do during the school year.
I’ve talked to experts on this topic, ranging from a city employee to our staff to summer research students, about what they’ve found to do. Add these great things to your to-do list before Move-In Day:
- Visit the Williamsburg Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, and pick up some locally-grown goodness, and make a meal with new ingredients
- Stop in to First Baptist Church to learn about its history as one of the first Black churches in America
- Take in a free movie on Sunday nights on Prince George street
- See the river from a new vantage point: ride the Jamestown Ferry
- Get cultured in a fun atmosphere with the Second Sundays Art & Music Festival or inside the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum
- Cool off with an indoor performance at the Kimball Theatre; sometimes you can see shows for as little as $3!
- Attend a concert or reading at the Williamsburg Library
- Learn how decisions are made at the Williamsburg City Council
- Go beyond DoG Street, and explore Colonial Williamsburg. Visit gardens behind the houses, and make friends with the sheep.
Enjoy!
