A Trip to the Farm

Today, my sociology of food class went on a field trip to visit Day Spring Farm. On the left is our lovely sociology professor Amy Quark, on the right is Charlie Maloney, and in the middle is his wife Miriam. Charlie is my professor for another class, food sustainability, and he’s also an inspiring farmer.

Inside the greenhouse, Charlie explains the processes to us. Sarah's really interesting in scrutinizing the veggies.

So many chickens!

We had a potluck lunch, and it was reaaally delicious. The Maloneys provided a fresh salad with edible flowers and eggs from the chicken coop, and we brought everything else. Before eating, we stood in a circle, held hands, and had a moment of silence.

The neighbor's dog Rusty wanted to help plant spinach. Sorry Rusty. =o(
