Like the “President’s Tree” I began my journey at W&M as a sapling eager to spread my roots to gather nourishment and knowledge on my four-year journey. I experienced many twists and turns as my roots grew deeper, my resolve stronger, my knowledge greater and my path straighter. As the “Tree” is surrounded by many indigenous species, I was surrounded by a diverse community growing more so with each incoming class. No longer was I a sapling but a symbol of knowledge, strength, courage, growth and opportunity as I grew stronger and nourished those who followed me as I stood tall like the “President’s Tree.”
