Wake Up…It’s Time for School!

Wow! It is hard to believe that another summer has ended, and a new fall semester has begun. Do you know what that means? It’s the first day of classes! While this day is always monumental for members of the College community for many different reasons, it still evokes a universal feeling of excitement. Freshmen are anxious to see what college is all about and are ready to learn new things. Upperclassmen now feel a sense of ownership and are ready to become leaders on campus. Seniors find themselves at a crossroads, attempting to enjoy the last year of their undergraduate experiences, yet still trying to prepare for their upcoming futures. Faculty members are eager to pass on knowledge and stimulate innovative ways of thinking. Administrators are energized with a passion to begin working with colleagues and students to both carry on traditions and create novel approaches to conventional ways of thinking.

I think back to my very first day of college. Of course, I was the quintessential freshman—I lived and died by my blown-up map of campus. I was so nervous about what lay ahead in my future. What would I learn? Who would I meet? What would I do? So many questions that I thought would take an eternity to answer, but they were all eventually answered in four short years that went by in the blink of an eye. So even though my first days of classes as a student are over, I still get to share that same sense of excitement as an administrator. I’m anxious about the upcoming year and find myself still asking the same questions I had as a freshman. What will I learn? Who will I meet? What will I do?
