Freshman Admission Decision Launch: Evening of Friday, March 23
As an avid sports fan, this is one of my favorite times of the year. March Madness features the best college basketball teams in the country competing for a National Championship. Spring Training allows Major League Baseball teams (Go O’s!) to put the finishing touches on their rosters before Opening Day on March 29. Free agency in the NFL sees big time names switching teams in advance of the 2018-2019 season, with the NFL Draft on April 26 serving as a celebration of the league’s brightest new stars. And in the NBA, we are inching closer towards the playoffs beginning on April 14. All in all, there are multiple exciting things happening on multiple different fronts.
As an admissions counselor, this is also one of the most exciting times of the year, in that we are putting the final touches on William & Mary’s Class of 2022. Over the past several months we have reviewed thousands of impressive and humbling applications, discussing many of these same individuals within our decision committee meetings. After following such a careful, thoughtful, and thorough process, we are now prepared to take the next step in our admission cycle with our applicants and their families.
The following announcement was published on our Undergraduate Admission webpage this morning:
Freshman admission decisions will be released the evening of Friday, March 23. Admission notifications will be sent directly to the email address listed by the student in their application, and William & Mary will be the sender of this email. All admitted students will receive a formal admission packet in the mail in the coming days.
For those who applied to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme:
- If you have been admitted to W&M, you will receive another decision email for the Joint Degree Programme within one week of this initial decision launch.
- If you have not been admitted to W&M, your decision for both W&M and the Joint Degree Programme will be in the email you receive on Friday, March 23.
Financial Aid – Families of admitted students who have submitted all of their appropriate financial aid documentation will be receiving their need-based aid packages 1-2 weeks after their student has received their official admission notification. All questions regarding need-based financial aid can be directed to our Financial Aid Office (757-221-2420, aid@wm.edu). All merit-based scholarship selections have been finalized at this time.
We appreciate your patience over the past few months as we have been diligently working here in Williamsburg. Thank you to all of our impressive applicants for sharing their stories with us. We will be in touch soon!
Additional posts will be published on this same blog as soon as decisions are released tomorrow. Hang in there! An email from our office will be arriving in your inbox in the near future.

Hello! Is there any news about decisions for the PhD in American Studies? I cannot find a date for decisions.
Good luck, class of 2022!
Take care,
Kelsey
@Kelsey, we are not able to provide you with an update regarding your PhD admission status, as our office specifically deals with undergraduate applicants. We would recommend contacting our American Studies department directly. We wish you all the best!
My husband (’96) & I will be in Williamsburg tonight, while our son (’22 please oh please) will be at Grandma’s hitting refresh & feeling queasy.
Fingers crossed that we have a reason to hit the bookstore tomorrow for some W&M Mom & Dad sweatshirts.
Will the merit based decisions be released tonight also?
@Lynn H. at this juncture, merit based award recipients have indeed been notified. Should you have additional questions about this, you are always welcome to contact our office.
