Decisions, Decisions – 2017 Regular Decisions Released
We Admit It! After meeting you on the road and here on campus, communicating with you via email and on the phone, and spending the past several weeks reviewing and discussing your applications, the time is finally here. All freshman admission decisions have been finalized and released. As we are posting this, decision notification emails for those who applied Regular Decision for freshman admission are on their way to your inboxes. Please read the entire list below for pertinent information regarding admission decisions.
- Decisions are sent by email to all applicants. Everyone receives an email regardless of decision.
- Please check spam and junk folders in case the email landed there instead of your inbox.
- Only those who have been admitted will also receive a formal admission packet in the mail. This packet will be arriving in the coming days.
- Decisions are sent to the email address provided in your Common Application. Only students receive decision emails; parents do not.
- William & Mary should appear as the sender and the subject will be either “Good Things” or “William & Mary Admission Decision.”
- For those who also applied to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme:
- If you are admitted to W&M, you will receive another decision email for the joint degree programme tomorrow (Friday).
- If you are not admitted to W&M, your decision for both W&M and the joint degree programme will be in the email you receive tonight.
- As of the posting of this blog, all decision emails have been sent. It can take some time for the emails to leave our server and get to your inbox, but we promise that they are on their way.
- We have provided three additional blogs: one for those admitted, one for those waitlisted and one for those who were denied admission. These blogs will hopefully address any immediate questions you may have and provide more insight on the decisions we have made.
- We are going to sign off for a few hours in order to allow decisions to arrive, be reviewed and digested. We will be back on later this evening to address any questions or concerns.
- Important Note: If your application was complete (meaning you received an email from our office directly stating that your application was complete) and you do not receive a decision, DO NOT PANIC. Simply follow up with us in the coming days during normal business hours (757-221-4223, admission@wm.edu) and we will investigate. Assuming your application was complete and a decision email was launched, we will re-send the decision email, as well as send a copy of that decision in the mail, if requested.
It has been an absolute pleasure to share this journey with you. We are humbled that you chose to share your incredible stories with us. Regardless of the final outcome of your application, please know how much you impressed us. We wish you nothing but the best as you enter the final stages of your college search process.
Brad Harlan
Assistant Dean of Admission

Hi!
First of all, I just want to say thank you so much for running this blog. I was accepted ED and I read that Monroe scholarship notifications were sent out with Regular Decision notices. Is that done by email or snail mail? If by email, should we have received it by now?
Thank you so much!!
@Monroe Hopeful, you are most welcome! Congratulations on your acceptance to William & Mary. We are absolutely ECSTATIC to have you as a member of our Class of 2021. At this time, all Monroe Scholars have been notified via email of their selection.
Oh no! I didn’t get an email. Rising sophomores can apply to be Monroe scholars as well, right? I’ll just have to try extra hard next year.
Thanks 🙂
@Monroe Helpful, yes, each year, rising sophomores who have demonstrated stellar academic performance at W&M are invited to apply for the Monroe Scholar Program. Additional information about this program can be found on the Monroe Scholars website (http://www.wm.edu/as/monroescholars/upperclass-monroes/index.php).
Is there any chance that more Monroe spots are offered to freshmen as admitted students decline the opportunity?
@Kelly, we do not anticipate offering any more Monroe Scholarships for the Class of 2021. This being said, as mentioned in the above comments, each year there are rising sophomores who are offered positions in the Monroe Scholars Program after demonstrating strong academic performance their freshman year. In other words, even if you are not offered a Monroe Scholarship as an entering student, you can still gain admittance to the program as a sophomore, should you decide to attend W&M (which we hope you do!).
For the St. Andrews emails – do we get one either way? Or only if we get in? Anxiously checking email all day!
@St. Andrews Wannabe, all students who applied to the St Andrews Joint Degree Programme will receive their admission decision notification emails by early this coming week (within the next few days), regardless of their admission decision. Hang in there! You will be hearing from us soon. We hope that you’re having a nice weekend.
Hi, thanks for this blog, it is super helpful. However, it said that Joint Degree decisions for admitted W&M students would be notified by email on Friday, but I still haven’t gotten a decision. Are the emails just running late, or was I missed? Thank you!
@Kirsten, our office is still in the process of finalizing St Andrews Joint Degree Programme decisions. We apologize for the delay. You will be hearing from us by early this coming week. Thank you for your patience!
Still waiting on a Joint Degree decision email. Any new information about when they should come out?
@Landon, our office is currently in the process of finalizing St Andrews Joint Degree Programme admission decisions. You will be hearing from us by early this coming week. Thank you for your patience!
Do Admissions Officers know which parents donated to the Annual Fund and which don’t?
Just curious. I should hope not, but you never know.
@Tandy S., simply put, no. The members of our admission committee do not know this information. As such, donation information is not part of our holistic review process.
I probably fall into a small minority of students . I am a resident of Virginia , and a senior citizen .
I am interested in renewing my teaching certification ( 2 graduate courses) and researching a possible undergraduate classical course of study with Latin emphasis .
I understand that. William and Mary does offer seniors courses for credit at reduced tuition .
@Patricia Sakovich, given your situation, the best office to contact in order to have your questions answered would be the University Registrar. Their office can be contacted by email (registrar@wm.edu) or phone (757-221-2800). The following webpage is a good place for you to start reviewing information on how to register and apply: http://www.wm.edu/offices/registrar/studentsandalumni/nds/applynds/seniorcitizens/index.php
