Decisions, Decisions – 2016 Regular Decisions Released
We Admit It! The time is here. Decisions have been made and emails have been launched. Decisions for those who applied Regular Decision for freshman admission are on their way to your inboxes. Please read the entire list below for pertinent information regarding admission decisions.
- Decisions are sent by email to all applicants. Everyone receives an email regardless of decision.
- Please check spam and junk folders in case the email landed there instead of your inbox.
- Only those who have been admitted will also receive a formal admission packet in the mail. This packet will be arriving in the coming days.
- Decisions are sent to the email address provided in your Common Application. Only students receive decision emails; parents do not.
- William & Mary should appear as the sender and the subject will be either “Good Things” or “William & Mary Admission Decision.”
- For those who also applied to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme:
- If you are admitted to W&M, you will receive another decision email for the joint degree programme in the next day or so.
- If you are not admitted to W&M, your decision for both W&M and the joint degree programme will be in the email you receive tonight.
- As of the posting of this blog, all decision emails have been sent. It can take some time for the emails to leave our server and get to your inbox, but we promise that they are on their way.
- We have provided three additional blogs: one for those admitted, one for those waitlisted and one for those who were denied admission. These blogs will hopefully address any immediate questions you may have and provide more insight on the decisions we have made.
- Once this blog is posted, we will sign off for a few hours and allow decisions to arrive, be reviewed and digested. We will be back on later this evening to address any questions or concerns.
- Important Note: If your application was complete (meaning you received an email from our office directly stating that your application was complete) and you do not receive a decision, DO NOT PANIC. Simply follow up with us tomorrow during normal business hours (757-221-4223, admission@wm.edu) and we will investigate. Assuming your application was complete and a decision email was launched, we will send the decision email again that evening and we will send a copy of that decision in the mail.
It has been an absolute pleasure reviewing each and every one of your applications. We are humbled that you chose to share your incredible stories with us. Regardless of the final outcome of your application, please know that we have genuinely enjoyed taking this journey with you. We wish all of you nothing but the best as you enter the final stages of your college search process.
Brad Harlan
Assistant Dean of Admission

Good luck!!!
My son was accepted in 2011, this school changed his life forever. He bonded with several professors, was a walk on for one of the athletic teams. He currently works for a person we all know. W&M is a magical school, good luck to all.
Woot I got accepted! Thanks W&M! I’ll be sure to visit soon with another buddy that got accepted too! I’m really looking forward to it :^)
@ATM Fan, congratulations! It was an absolute pleasure to review your application and to learn more about you. We look forward to hosting you and your friend on campus sometime soon! Go Tribe.
Out of curiosity, will admitted ED students find out if they have received the Monroe Scholarship or William & Mary Scholars in the packets that have been mailed out, or would they already have heard?
@Wondering, all ED students who have been selected as Monroe and/or William & Mary Scholars have been mailed a notification of their selection(s) along with their admitted student materials. These materials will be arriving in the mail within the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions or concerns about your particular situation, you are more than welcome to email any questions to admission@wm.edu.
Thanks W&M
Congrats to all who were admitted! Now that Freshman decisions are released, will transfer applications be read?
@Excited Transfer, yes indeed! Our transfer application review process has officially begun. We are still on track to send transfer admission decisions by early May.
Thank you for your response! Fingers crossed!
So happy to be accepted into W&M!! I do have one question, though–have all Monroe Scholars been chosen yet?
Thanks so much!
@Ashley, congratulations on your acceptance! We were so happy to review your application – it was quite impressive and a pleasure to read. All Monroe Scholars have been selected at this time. Official notification of a Monroe Scholars selection is included in the Admit Packet that is mailed to admitted students.
Will there be an “Overheard in Committee” blog for transfer applicants in the near future? Very excited to hear some updates on the process!
@Anxious Transfer, we will indeed be posting Overheard in Transfer Committee posts within the next few weeks! These will provide you with updates on our transfer application review process. Hang in there!
@Anxious Transfer, to follow-up on your previous question, transfer admission decisions were officially launched earlier this afternoon. A transfer “Decisions, Decisions” blog will be published in the near future.
I heard from one faculty that transfer decision will be released today, is that correct? I am a current student here and I’m looking forward to welcoming my best friend to transfer here!
@Philip, transfer decisions were released earlier this afternoon. A transfer “Decisions, Decisions” blog will be published in the near future.
So, since the first few days of May have passed but you guys are still contemplating whether to use the waitlist at all, can it be assumed that the number of people coming off of it this year will not exactly be overwhelming? Haha. Thanks 🙂
@Katie, thank you for checking in! We are still in the process of determining to what extent we will be utilizing our waitlist this year. We anticipate this year’s waitlist review process looking similar to recent years – statistics for waitlist admission offers from recent years are available on our waitlist FAQ page (http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/how-to-apply/waitlistfaqs/).
