Decisions, Decisions – 2015 Regular Decisions Released
We Admit It! The time has arrived. Decisions have been made and emails have been launched. Decisions for those who applied Regular Decision for freshman admission are on their way to your inboxes. The bulleted list below has all of the information you need.
- Decisions are sent by email to all applicants. Everyone receives an email regardless of decision.
- Please check spam and junk folders in case the email landed there instead of your inbox.
- Those who are admitted will also receive a formal admission packet in the mail in the coming days.
- Decisions are sent to the email address provided in your Common Application. Only students receive decision emails; parents do not.
- William & Mary should appear as the sender and the subject will be either “Good Things” or “William & Mary Admission Decision.”
- For those who also applied to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme:
- If you are admitted to W&M, you will receive another decision email for the joint degree programme in the next day or so.
- If you are not admitted to W&M, your decision for both W&M and the joint degree programme will be in the email you receive tonight.
- As of the posting of this blog, all decision emails have been sent. It can take some time for the emails to leave our server and get to your inbox but they are on their way.
- We have provided three additional blogs: one for those admitted, one for those waitlisted and one for those who were denied admission. These blogs will hopefully address any immediate questions and provide more insight on the decisions we made.
- If your application was complete (meaning you received an email from us stating as much) and you do not receive a decision, DO NOT PANIC. Please just follow up with us tomorrow during normal business hours and we will investigate. Assuming your application was complete and a decision email was launched, we will send the decision email again that evening and we will send a copy of that decision in the mail.
- Once this blog is posted, we will sign off for a few hours and allow decisions to arrive, be reviewed and digested. We will be back on later this evening to address any questions or concerns.
It has truly been an honor and a pleasure to review each and every one of your applications. We are incredibly humbled that you chose to apply to W&M and to share your incredible story with us. Regardless of the final outcome we have enjoyed taking this journey with you. We wish all of our applicants all of the best as you enter the final stages of your college search process.

Comments are closed on posts older than one year, but we still want to hear from you. If you have a comment or question for us, please email admission@wm.edu.
I currently do not have an email and I am just wondering is there something wrong?
@Christian Ekirch, maybe wait a few minutes and check again. There may just be a slight delay.
Thanks for everything! I enjoyed reading the blog. Any time frame for when emails usally get from your server to student’s emails?
@Jay, there’s no way to know that unfortunately. Depends totally on both servers. We know emails are definitely starting to arrive in inboxes but sending and receiving nearly 14,000 emails can take time.
I haven’t received any email–checked my inbox and spam. Is there a lag?
@Miranda, there certainly can be. Give it a few minutes and refresh.
There was a lag with my daughter’s. It hit the inbox (Gmail) at around 0925, but was time stamped at 0913
Literally the nicest letter of rejection I’ve received. The admissions committee seemed genuinely upset that I wasn’t accepted. Thanks so much William and Mary, no hard feelings
@Catherine Piersa, we are genuinely sorry that we cannot admit you and other great students. We’re glad there’s no hard feelings and wish you all the best.
My daughter is devastated, wait listed! Unfortunately we believe she was compared to other students in her specialty center within her high school. Most of them accepted have no desire to attend W&M and only did it for bragging rights. This process is so painful and unfair. I know that you as a panel can not see this but if only you knew what we have seen and heard. Hopeful she can get in because she has worked extremely hard and is so passionate about attending W&M. Don’t know what to do because it seems there is a disparity between the amount of people admitted and who end up enrollment versus the amount of people offered wait-list and are taken from wait-list is; this is very disheartening.
@Patricia, we are certainly sorry we weren’t able to send more positive news and understand your daughter’s disappointment. We certainly, as far as review of a transcript goes, do compare students who attend the same school/program/magnet/center because they have access to the same classes/teachers/grading system. That being said, we also still consider each student individually. And yes we admit more students than we know will enroll. That’s standard practice as we know students will have many options to choose from.
We would encourage your daughter to take some time, let the results of all of her decisions sink in, then weigh her options. If W&M is still a top choice there’s no harm in accepting her spot on the waitlist. No doubt other schools have offered her a space and she will have some great opportunities for next year.
I still haven’t received an email… is it still coming?
I haven’t gotten anything yet either. This wait is torture!
I just keep on hitting refresh!!
still waiting at 957PM…WHERE IS IT
Same!
Same here
Same here!
still no email!!
IT CAME, IM IN
@Kelven, proof positive that sometimes there is just a lag. We know a watched pot never boils but maybe there’s an exception to every rule (was that too many cliches?). Anyway, congrats @Kelven!
Congrats! Still waiting…
10:10 Pm EST and still no e-mail. This waiting is the worst part! Hopefully it will come soon, good or bad!
Thanks to this blog, W&M not only has a face (or many), but it has a spirit, one that I have felt far more tangibly than other school’s for the past few months. Excited to join the Tribe!
@Congrats Hannah, and thanks for the shout out!
My friend and I both have not received emails and we are really worried? It’s been more than an hour since decisions went out. Is that normal?
10:34 EST and still nothing, we’re in the same boat 🙁
I’m anxious….is anyone here still waiting on their e-mail like I am? 10:35 pm EST. Suppose I just need to think about other things right now and let the e-mail come on its own time…
I’m waiting as well, 10:35 EST.
For those still not seeing an email, please be sure to check spam and junk folders thoroughly (and maybe trash just in case it accidentally got placed there).
1040 and no mail yet. Who ever is still waiting, you are not alone!!!
My daughter is still waiting on e-mail at 10:42pm. Not sure she will get any sleep if it doesn’t not come in soon
10:47 pm and I am still waiting!! I really hope it comes soon
Nails are all gone….but my daughter received her acceptance email. We are so grateful and proud !!!
@Nail Biting Parent, we definitely don’t want anyone to lose body parts in this process but are thrilled your daughter was accepted!
Yes!!! I just got accepted!!! It was worth the wait!!
@Elizabeth, congrats. Sorry for the wait but glad it was worth it!
11:29 ET, still no email. Not feeling too good about this …
@Emily, if you still don’t have an email in the morning, follow up with us by phone and we’ll look into it. Don’t panic. Not getting an email doesn’t mean anything about a decision.
Are they released in alphabetical order?
Maybe so, my last name begins with Y. How about you?
I’m an S
@Rachel, no decisions are launched all together. Like others, we advise you to follow up with us in the morning if you don’t have a decision. We will be able to investigate and assist.
As a general follow up, many of you who were waiting on emails have followed up to say you received them which is great. We’re certainly sorry there was a lag but sometimes that just happens when nearly 14,000 individual emails are headed to nearly 14,000 unique inboxes. If you still do not have a decision, again, please check spam/junk/trash folders just in case. If there’s still no email, please call our office tomorrow and we will be happy to assist you. Assuming a decision was launched, we will resend that email again after 5:00pm and we will also mail a hard copy of the decision letter to you.
We will sign off for the evening shortly. We will be back online (and on the phones) in the morning to assist anyone who has follow-up questions.
11:44pm and still no word…if My daughter applied early decision and was deferred, will she also be notified in this decision pool?
@Anxious Alum & Parent, yes, those deferred during Early Decision get notified when we release to Regular Decision Applicants. It’s unlikely at this point that she will receive a decision if she hasn’t already. Please just follow up with us in the morning and we will be happy to assist you.
Thank you so much for accepting me!!! Excited for the possibility of #Tribe19
@Ian, congrats! #wm2019
Still no word… Can you give a contact # please
@Anxious Alum & Parent, our office’s phone number is 757-221-4223.
Thank you… I called. They took my name and told me that someone would get back to me later today. It would have been nice if she could have just told me over the phone though. The waiting is really hard on the kids. With everyone else at her school having already heard, she’s feeling rejected already even though she hasn’t heard one way or the other. Just a bit frustrated…
@Anxious Alum & Parent, we understand but we cannot give decisions over the phone. We just have no way of verifying the person on the other end is who they say they are and we want to be sure we’re protecting every applicant’s privacy. We know the waiting is tough and we will work as hard as we can to resolve the issue expediently.
I understand… Thank you.
Thanks for the Admit IT blog. My daughter was excited to see the acceptance email this morning. We will watch the Admitted Student blog for info regarding opportunities for a follow up visit.
@BillK, congrats to your daughter! The welcome website linked in her decision email actually has information on visit opportunities for Admitted Students. April 11 is our Day for Admitted Students and is the best day to visit if you can. We also have some other smaller visit programs on other days in April. The packet she gets in the mail will also have info on these programs.
Is the schedule for April 11 available? (I don’t see any details online).
We are returning from vacation on 4/11 and arriving at the Norfolk airport in the late morning. We will make plans to hustle to W&M if it will be beneficial (and not disruptive). She is also looking at a class visit separately.
@BillK, there is a tentative schedule online. If you go to the Day for Admitted Students website the first link on the left is schedule. You can come late of course but might also want to consider one of the myWM Mondays we offer for admitted students who cannot attend Day for Admitted Students.
Oh….that link labeled “Schedule”… Thanks.
FYI…heading says DFAS 2014.
Still haven’t heard from anyone. I called this morning and was told that I would receive a call back… Nothing. Any suggestions?
@Anxious Alum & Parent, we appreciate your continued patience. We assume you were told when you called that you would get a call back by the end of the day and that’s still our plan.
Still waiting for a decision to come through… Definitely getting frustrated at this point as we were told decisions would be sent again after 5pm today.
@Anxious Alum & Parent, they will be. We are still in the office working on deploying decisions to students such as yours. There are a number of students whose decisions we need to resend and that takes some time. You were also likely told that a copy of the decision was in the mail just in case for whatever reason, an email we send doesn’t make its way to your inbox. We understand the frustration but we are absolutely doing everything in our power to get decisions in students’ hands.
@BillK, thanks. That is correct as that’s a link to a PDF of last year’s program so people can get a sense of that day but we understand that can be confusing. We’ll take a look.
Hi, I called this morning and was told that the decision would be resent to my email but still have not received anything. Is there any way to know at what time I can expect my decision? Thank you!
@Emily, we’ve finished sending decisions for this evening. If you don’t get an email by the morning, please feel free to follow up with us. You were likely also informed that a hard copy of the decision would be in the mail also just in case we can’t reach you via email.
Perfect, thank you so much!!
Will there be a day for admitted transfer students/ transfer open house this year? I know the last transfer day is on Friday, but I am unable to attend that one and was hoping if I am accepted that there will still be a similar opportunity.
@Transfer Hopeful, there will be a day over the summer for enrolling transfers to come to campus.
From what I’m seeing, it seems like the academic profile of admitted students is higher this year compared to past years. Can anyone comment on that? Thanks!
@Victoria Tillson Evans, while the profile of admitted students varies a bit from year to year, the fluctuations are fairly minimal and this year is no different. We did have the largest applicant pool ever so that did make our process slightly more competitive.
WOOHOO CLASS OF 2019!!!! LET’S GO!!
Should recommendation letters for transfer applicants be mailed or faxed?
Thanks!
@Transfer Hopeful, either is fine.
I have yet to receive an email confirming that my fall transfer application is complete. Should I be concerned and follow up with someone? I believe I submitted all materials, and I didn’t receive an email stating that my application was incomplete either. Sorry for posting about the transfer application process on this post.
Thank you!
@Transfer Hopeful, it’s not cause for concern because we will follow up one way or the other and we’re still working through the processing of all of our transfer applications. We’d advise following up if you haven’t heard anything further from us next week.
I received an email and a letter in my admissions packet saying I have been accepted into the Joint Degree Programme. The letter said I would receive another letter with more info within one week, but I have not received it yet. Do you know when I should get it?
@Joint Degree Hopeful, are you referring to the letter from the programme directors? Those letters are on their way. We apologize for the confusion. The initial email said they’d be sent within a week and should arrive soon.
Yes, that’s what I was referring to. Thank you!
My son received his acceptance email on the 24th and his packet later that week. We still haven’t received a financial aid email or anything in the mail. Just wondering if that is normal or if we should call the office. Once he knows the offer he will be able to make his decision. We are so happy and proud and hopefully he will be a member of the tribe come September!!
@Cathy, congratulations to your son! Assuming you submitted the FAFSA and other materials on time, you should most likely have received information by now so likely best to follow up with the Financial Aid Office. They do send info only by email to the student, not by mail.
Do you plan on blogging about the Transfer Decision process?
Thank you.
@Kim, yes we will! Stay tuned.
Hi! This is kind of a random question but I don’t know where else to ask if: how do we request certain people to be our roommate freshman year?
@Tribe 2019, in the summer, new students will complete a roommate questionnaire. On that form you can indicate a desired roommate. If that person also indicates you as their desired roommate, you will be matched.
Any updated ETA on when the transfer decisions will be sent?
@Anxious, please see our latest blog on Overheard in Transfer Committee and the comments attached to that post. Like with freshmen admission, we cannot predict a release date and we’ve provided additional info in that blog and its comments.
