Admission Office Closed for Holiday — Available Through Email
We Admit It! Even Admission Officers get a holiday break…well kind of. As of noon on December 23, the College of William & Mary and the Office of Undergraduate Admission will close. We will reopen on January 5. However, we recognize that the next eight days are the busiest of the application season. Between now and our January 1 Regular Decision deadline, the vast majority of our 14,000+ applicants will click submit and send their applications our way. Over the break we will continue to download and process applications, and we will email applicants and their parents accordingly. Note during these busier times it may take longer than normal for us to download your application from Common App and can take up to a month for us to match it with your application materials. Be patient and check your inbox, we will absolutely be in touch as your application is processed.
Additionally, for those who have last-minute questions, we will be checking our admission@wm.edu daily with the exception of December 25. While we will not be able to confirm receipt of specific materials over the break we will be happy to address any questions or concerns you have about applying to W&M. We will also monitor this blog for questions during the office closure.
We wish all of you a wonderful holiday season. And we look forward to reading all of your applications in the new year.

Sorry to be bothersome with so many questions, but I have one more to ask. I have taken the SAT once and the ACT three times. I haven’t taken the SAT since January of my junior year and wanted to try it again. As for the ACT, I’ve done well each time, but would like to try it one more time to see if I can get my score just a little bit higher. I’ve sent William and Mary all of my test scores. Would it be looked down upon if I took each test once more (SAT in January and ACT in February)? The results should come in time for review, but I didn’t know if it would be looked down on for me to have six standardized test scores on my application.
@MPS, that wouldn’t be looked down upon but we would caution you that 1) it’s possible a February ACT will not arrive in time to be reviewed and 2) generally after a third attempt the likelihood of dramatic changes in score isn’t high. We certainly appreciate your desire to improve your application but also understand the time and money involved in standardized testing. We just hope this helps inform your choice as you weigh your options.
Thank you very much for the quick reply!
I just checked and the SAT scores should be available February 12th and the ACT scores on February 17th. Planning on signing up to take both of them. I’ll be sure to mention this in my letter of continued interest. Thanks again!
@MPS, the ACT scores should be available for online viewing on Feb. 17 but aren’t officially reported for three to eight weeks after the test date. So it is possible we’d get them in time but it also sounds like we might not.
Can we still mail in supplemental materials such as copies of US VISA and I-94? Thank you very much!
@Sam, yes of course. The deadline isn’t until January 1 so you’re welcome to send in application materials.
Common App does not have an Essay prompt for W&M. For some reason it’s hard for me to sallow, and I would hate to submit an incomplete application. Can you please confirm that W&M does not require an Essay? Thank you
@LaKshya Kaushal, the only essay we require is the personal statement included as part of the Common Application. We do have a second, optional essay that you find in the Member Question part of the application for W&M. It’s at the end of that part of the application. The prompt is essentially show and tell by proxy and with an attitude.
Date of parents’ voter registration? The common app asks for various indicia of parents’ Virginia residency, most of which my parents can definitively answer. But the common app seems to insist on the date of my parents’ Virginia voter registration. They claim to have no record of the exact date of their Virginia voter registration, but assure me they have been voting in Virginia since before I was born. How can I answer this common app question?
@Bob Branman, that’s not actually a Common App question. That’s a question W&M is asking specifically as part of the application for in-state tuition privileges. Your parents’ voter registration cards should have a date issued on them. They can certainly use that date to answer the question. If they don’t have their cards they can approximate the date or they can use the date their license was issued as you normally register to vote when getting/renewing a license.
oke, other words i have to spend holiday and not to think have an Essay prompt for W&M yet.
I am in the process of applying and sending my SAT scores to William and Mary, and was wondering if I should rush ship my SAT scores and pay the $31.00 fee in order for it to get there before the application deadline. I have taken the SAT multiple times, however, I have not yet sent any of my scores to William and Mary. If I send my scores without the fee, they should arrive a few days after the deadline. Would my application not be considered then?
@Landon, you don’t need to rush the scores. If they arrive a bit after the deadline that’s fine as long as we receive your application by the Jan. 1 deadline. Please just request the College Board send them as soon as you can so that process can get underway.
