Freshman Waitlist Update
We Admit It! Negotiating the waitlist is far from a precise process. At this point, our incoming freshman class is full but we do believe we will likely be able to make a small handful of additional offers throughout the summer.
Yesterday, we sent an email to all students still active on the freshman waitlist to see if they remain interested in being considered for admission. We recognize that students who responded affirmatively to our waitlist offer in March may not feel as strongly about W&M now as they did then. That’s as it should be. No doubt many who initially chose to remain active on the waitlist have gotten very excited about the school to which they sent an enrollment deposit and are consequently no longer interested in being considered for W&M. Should we admit additional students, this email (and the responses to it) helps us to ensure we’re only continuing to consider students who remain genuinely interested.
Once the dust settles from this email (students have a week to respond by completing an online form) we will take a look once again at our class and will determine if additional offers are necessary. If they are, they will be very limited in scope (maybe a handful made one week, another few offers made the following week and so on). As with our previous waitlist offers, we will do our best to reach students first by phone and then by email. We hope to finish this process by July 1 and certainly no later than August 1.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we know this is a very drawn-out and inexact process. We know that you are eager to have your college search completed just as we are eager to have our incoming class completed.

WOW!
I must laude and applaud WM admissions team for their unique astonishing effort in this intricate process.
I received an offer of admission today. What steps do I need to take at this point? Do I need to register for classes, dorms, etc.?
@quaestiones, once we receive an enrollment deposit, students will receive an email directing them to the Tribe Guide which is an online site directing students to all the paperwork and steps needed to be completed before arriving in August. Our First Year Experience office manages that process and will assist anyone needing it. Those admitted from the waitlist will not be behind or miss out on any of these steps or opportunities. Class registration for example isn’t done until August.
I am suppose to be on the wait list but I did not receive an email. What should I do?
@Hopeful, first check your spam and junk folders for the email. If you don’t see it there, and assuming you’re a freshman applicant, call us on Monday so we can investigate.
