Joanna Borman
First of all, congratulations on your acceptance to the William & Mary Class of 2017! Welcome to the Tribe! My name is Joanna Borman and I’m a sophomore majoring in Government and English here at the College. I am also a transfer-I went to Northwestern University, just outside of Chicago, last year. It was a good switch, and I could not be happier! Home for me is the ever-ubiquitous NOVA (or Northern Virginia for out-of-state people). I have lived in Falls Church, VA my entire life. Back at home, I have a younger brother and sister, and a dog, Mischa (I may or may not have named her after Mischa Barton during the heyday of the OC). I will be working on social media outreach for the Admissions Department this semester, so I’m super excited to legitimize time spent on my guilty pleasures, Facebook and Twitter.
On campus, I am a member of a social sorority and a tutor at Matthew Whaley Elementary School. I also spend time hiking with the Outdoors Club. I have played tennis my whole life, but I’m currently taking a little break right now to train for my first half-marathon in April! I also love traveling and am planning on studying abroad in South Africa next year. In my spare time, I enjoy taking study breaks to read magazines at Barnes & Noble, running through CW (Colonial Williamsburg), and lounging in the Sunken Gardens on a sunny day. William & Mary is wonderful school filled with wonderful people and I can’t wait for you to become a member of our community! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Rebecca Avison
Hi, my name is Rebecca Avison and I am a senior at the College double majoring in Psychology and Kinesiology. I am from West Chester, Pennsylvania. I have a twin brother and have longed unsuccessfully for a dog for 21 years (the only pet I have ever owned is a hermit crab). I lived in Brazil as an infant and used to be fluent in Portuguese, though I completely lost the language when I moved back to the United States.
I am a Spring Intern for the Admission Office and am working on coordinating the activities fair for Day for Admitted Students. On campus, I am also a member of the club lacrosse team, a tour guide and a member of a social sorority. Two fun facts about me: I have been cliff jumping from 65 feet and my favorite word is golden.
Jordan Peterson
Hi Class of 2017! My name is Jordan Peterson; I’m a senior International Relations major and a Religious Studies minor at the College. Next year, I’m hoping to work at a university in Undergraduate Admissions. I guess I’m pretty passionate about higher education! I’m from Wilmette, IL and attended New Trier High School. Fun fact: The John Hughes movies such as Home Alone, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off were shot where I live.
On campus, I am a member of a social sorority and served on the sorority council, Panhellenic, for three years. I just ended my term as Panhellenic President. I am also a member of the student programming board, Alma Mater Productions (AMP). We work to host fun, low-cost events to students on campus such as comedians, musicians, speakers, and trivia nights. I am the chair of the Special Events Committee; we plan a fun afternoon in the Sunken Gardens on the Last Day of Classes (LDOC) each spring! When I’m not studying or involved in one of my extracurricular, you can usually find me at the Rec Center. I love taking Group Fitness classes; the student instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and always motivate me to work a little bit harder. On the weekends, my friends and I are usually checking out AMP events or eating at one of the many Mexican restaurants in Williamsburg. I’m so excited to share more of my W&M experience with you and can’t wait to see what you have done when I’m back for Homecoming 2013!
Grace Fernandez
Hello! My name is Grace Fernandez and I am a sophomore here at the College. I am originally from Richboro, Pennsylvania, which is just north of the wonderful city of Philadelphia! I plan on entering the Mason School of Business next fall and majoring in Finance with a concentration in Organizational Leadership and Management. I am very excited to be the Grassroots Spring 2013 intern at the Office of Undergraduate Admission, where I will be focusing on making banners for the Day for Admitted Students and creating sessions where current students can mingle with prospective students.
Apart from working as an intern at the Office of Undergraduate Admission, I am also a tour guide at the College, a member of the Student Conduct Council and a member of Net Impact. I also lead regional and international alternative break trips through Branch Out. Additionally, I am the Vice President of Programming for Campus Buddies, an organization on campus that volunteers weekly with people with disabilities.
I am beyond thrilled to be an intern this year at the Office of Undergraduate Admission and can’t wait to welcome the new members of the Tribe: Class of 2017!
John Anderson
Hello! My name is John Anderson, ’14, majoring in Business Marketing and Music and I hail from the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. I am thrilled to begin working in the Admission Office as a Spring Programming Intern this semester!
On campus, I am heavily involved in many different organizations- mostly through the music department. I perform as Principal Cellist in both the W&M Symphony Orchestra and the W&M Gallery Players. I serve as Historian on the Executive Board of the WMSO. I absolutely LOVE singing with my co-ed a cappella group, DoubleTake, where I act as Assistant Business Manager. This past winter break, I had the opportunity to sing with Sinfonicron Light Opera Company’s production of ‘Iolanthe.’ I also volunteer for The Flat Hat as a Staff Photographer, and am employed as an Assistant in the Music Library through Swem.
Other activities I am passionate about include running (W&M and Colonial Williamsburg both offer some pretty exciting trails/routes!), American literature, film (especially Horror), trying new foods and most recently: knitting.
Mark Bland
Hi everyone! My name is Mark and I am a freshman studying Neuroscience with a pre-medical concentration here at the College. Although I am originally from Purcellville, Virginia in Loudoun County, I am proud to call William & Mary my home away from home! I enjoy staying involved on campus, so beyond my work as an intern at the Admission Office, I am a Tour Guide and a member of the Student Alumni Council and Student Leadership Foundation. Last semester, I also met many talented prospective students as a Tribe Ambassador. In my free time, I’m always up for a game of volleyball, a trip to the Cheese Shop in Colonial Williamsburg, or just hanging out with my dorm mates. From the Mason School of Business to the Recreation Center, this campus has endless opportunities and resources that have made my first semester an amazing experience. I can’t wait to meet the members of the Class of 2017 and welcome you all as members of the Tribe Family! Get ready for the time of your life!
Kelley Quinzio
Hey y’all! My name is Kelley Quinzio, and I am a junior with a psychology major and anthropology minor. I am on a pre-nursing track, so it’s time for me to start the college search once again…I am Williamsburg born and bred, so I’m rarely a stone’s throw from home. Growing up, my friends and I always took advantage of living so close to the river and good Southern comfort food. I’ve always really enjoyed traveling, and right now my favorite place that I’ve visited is probably Dublin!
Currently, I am a social media intern in the Admission office, as well as a campus tour guide! Outside of Admission, I am the Bone Marrow Drive chair, member of Branch Out alternative breaks, member of Red Cross Blood Drives and a volunteer with DreamCatchers Therapeutic Riding Center. When I’m not doing all of that, I am doing developmental psych research, training for my next marathon, or watching the O.C. with friends.
With only three semesters left here, I can honestly say this is the best decision I’ve ever made and Williamsburg will forever be my home sweet home.
