Moving on Monday!

I’m back after a weekend back at home (I live in Fairfax, VA)!

Today, American Politics was all over the District, having site visits both in the morning and afternoon.

We met this morning at the Bipartisan Policy Center, a bipartisan (obviously) think tank type of organization which explores policy initiatives and other creative measures to try and foster more civility and compromise with less polarization in Congress. Many of their proposals are modest and limited in scope, but some of their ideas were unique and things that we had not heard in the past week.

We went back to Brookings for lunch, where I had a direct line of sight to Ben Bernanke eating lunch. I swear I’m not stalking him or being creepy, and I know I’ve mentioned him before, but it’s so amazing that we are in Washington surrounded by such important people at all times.

We then metro-ed over to Union Station to visit FreedomWorks, a libertarian/Tea Party think tank. They had a very unique idea that polarization isn’t necessarily bad, and they readily admit that they contribute to it as a special interest group that supports the Freedom Caucus, the caucus in the House that is most ideologically on the right wing.

It was a very interesting day. I can’t believe it is over tomorrow…time flies when you’re learning so much!

Until tomorrow,

Reed Timoner, American Politics, ’19
