Meet the Transfer Interns – Rachel!

Rachel KamvarHi everyone! My name is Rachel and I am currently a junior here at W&M. I transferred to William & Mary in fall 2014 after completing my freshman year at a large, out-of-state university. I’m from Arlington, Virginia, and I quickly realized that I liked being within driving distance from home. I never really felt like I fit in at my previous school, so I made the decision over winter break to start the transfer application process in the spring. I have never once regretted my decision to transfer to William & Mary and I hope that I can help you in anything you need!

I am an anthropology major and have recently declared a sociology minor. Since coming to William & Mary, I have tried to be actively involved on campus. I am involved with Building Tomorrow, the Middle Eastern Student Association, and have worked at the McLeod Business School Library. If you are like me and are slightly worried about transitioning from a large school to a smaller school, don’t worry! There are plenty of extracurricular activities you can get involved in and there is always something happening on campus over the weekends. One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to rent a canoe and go out on Lake Matoaka on a nice day with friends. I also studied abroad last fall, and I would definitely recommend doing so if you have the chance!

I am so unbelievably excited to work as a transfer intern and will hopefully get the opportunity to meet some of you! I remember how scared I was when I was applying to colleges as a transfer, so please do feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
