Meet the Transfer Interns: Alfred

Alfred OuyangHey guys, it’s Alfred. I am a junior studying history and government with pre-law concentration here at William & Mary. Life here at the Burg has been simply amazing! I transferred last fall from a liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. The ultimate reason that drove me to finalize my decision to William & Mary all attributes to the warm fuzzy nest feeling it gave me.

One Tribe, one family is not just a slogan. Professors here recognize you by your first name within the first week of class and students here welcome you with over 450 organizations, not to mention all those amazing and heart-warming staff around campus. Meanwhile, the resources that college can provide you are, simply beyond imagination. I did two externships this past winter thanks to the great help from the Cohen Career Center here at W&M.

This semester I am doing government research about deliberative democracy with the government department. Meanwhile, as a history major, I also get opportunities to write for our undergraduate student-owned professional history journal — The James Blair Historic Review.  (YES! You can do research even as a social science or humanity major.)

When I am not at Swem (the famous W&M library), you can find me all around. You will see me in the basement of the Campus Center writing and editing for the campus newspaper The Flat Hat; you might also find me attending social and philanthropy events around campus with my fraternity. You will be sure to see me working out at the beautiful campus recreation center and tennis courts since overall William & Mary is a healthy community with people full of energy and positive minds.

I know the transferring process can be quite nerve-wracking. Believe me, the sun still rises and everything will be fine. I was in your shoes last year and now, I am (sort of) enjoying the great February Williamsburg weather. We just had our transfer event with the prospective transfer last Friday and it was truly a blast! I enjoyed the conversation with the prospective transfers during lunch and was amazed by their talents and ambitions. I greatly look forward to all the exciting adventures awaiting us. Always feel free to reach me for any concerns and hope to meet each of you soon!
