Opening Day

I’ve been waiting endlessly for The Dark Knight (the new Batman movie) to come out in theaters. And no, it’s not even because of Heath Ledger. Ever since I was about six years old, I have been obsessed with Christian Bale. His performance in Newsies — those catchy songs and his impressive, jumping dance moves had me from the start. I learned all the lyrics and some of the more streamline dance routines and would parade around my house pretending like I was a newspaper delivery boy. I was one of the first in line to see Batman Begins and I have had a post-it countdown going since I got back from Spain for Dark Knight.

The excitement has only been building around campus. Last Sunday, they showed the original Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton batman movie on Prince George Street in Colonial Williamsburg. The city put up an inflatable screen and tons of residents and students came out to watch. I made my friends help me carry my black lounge chairs out there.

Then on Wednesday night, the residence hall association put on the newer Batman Begins with my all-time favorite Christian Bale and Katie Holmes — this time on Jamestown field. We lounged, ate pizza, and got even more pumped for the opening day of Dark Knight.

And this morning, as I got out of bed for work, I marked a zero on the countdown post-it. It’s finally the opening day!
