Office Distractions

When you pull together eleven students like the group of interns we have at Admissions this summer, there are bound to be endless distractions. Every morning when I enter the office – earlier than any student should be awake during the summer – I am greeted by enthusiastic deans and the other interns.

Our offices are all in the basement, which we refer as “the dungeon” because of the small interview rooms and how isolated they are from the rest of the office. We do our best to make it welcoming – photos and posters now hang from the walls and I have never been surrounded by so much warmth and love as when I’m down there.

Each morning we blast music from the phone room, singing along and dancing to classics from the Backstreet Boys, Titanic, etc. If I can ever figure out how to upload it, I’ll get the video of Kelley dancing and singing along to “Because You Loved Me,” by Celine Dion… classy (and glorious blackmail). It’s a great pump up until the research man from the room next door comes and urges us to keep the noise down… and we do. That is, until the next day.
